Save Doonies Farm

Doonies Farm covers 210 acres of which 172 are LFA status. The farm is registered with SEERAD and complies with all relevant legislation and regulations. All the animals are native breeds and are classed as rare, minority or traditional by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, with the exception of the Highland cattle.

Let’s get the Doonies Farm campaign mooo-ving

Last night at Cove Bay Hotel, more than 25 people gathered to kick-start the campaign to save Doonies in earnest.

There was a lot of positive comments and with great ideas flying round the room. We have a fantastic group of people with quite a few tricks up their sleeves. They are prepared to march the animals in two by two if they have to.

Our aim is to save Doonies as a trust so that children can enjoy, learn and benefit from a city farm. It has been done else where so there is no reason why it can’t be done here.

We have decided to call the steering group the Friends of Doonies. A fundraiser committee will set out an agenda for raising the profile of the campaign. They aim to raise the maximum amount of cash to make the transition from council to trust partnership possible.

This group plans to meet on Wednesday 26 March at 7.30pm at the Cove Bay Hotel.

A business plan group will tie down some of the inspirational ideas that were debated last night. We have a talented group willing to put their shoulder to the wheel and come up with a solid proposition to help create a sustainable future for the farm. They will meet on Monday 24 March at the Cove Bay Hotel at 7.30pm. Last night has shown that the people of Aberdeen will not lie down and allow an invaluable and unique facility be chucked on the midden.

All meetings are open and anyone who is interested in contributing to the campaign are more than welcome to attend.”
